History
Although H.T Gillers established the land for the St Andrews Golf Course in 1903 with the course first being played on in 1913, the suburb did not really develop until the late 1960s early 1970s. The intermediate school was built in 1978 which reflects how relatively new this picturesque suburb is.

Notable Landmarks
The most notable landmark is the St Andrews golf course. Ranked amongst New Zealand\'s finest courses it has hosted a number of New Zealand opens. It rests beside the Waikato River, which provides a picturesque backdrop to a tight and challenging course.

Real Estate & Design
The area around the golf course is typified by 1960 and 1970 large basement homes. The areas closer to the river off Delamare Road were developed throughout the 80s and 90s and include many architecturally designed riverside houses. The area behind the Sandwich Road shops has more modest and affordable three bedroom homes.

Shopping
Convenience shops are found on Braid Road, Heath Street and Sandwich Road. The Base and bulk retail at nearby Te Rapa offers a variety of large format specialty and departmental type shopping.

Restaurants & Cafes
The Crave Cafe on Sandwich Road is a popular venue with locals. Up on Te Rapa Road Espresso Workshop on the Sunshine Road/Te Rapa straight corner offers one of the best coffees in the city. Fast food outlets including Subway, McDonalds and Burger King which are situated on the Te Rapa straight.

Sports & Fitness
Women can enjoy a workout at the neighbourhood Contours Gym in Sandwich Road. The Te Rapa sports centre off Vickery Street offers squash courts and rugby fields. Hamilton Golf Club based at St Andrews golf course in St Andrews Terrace is one of the best courses in the country. The river walking track provides a tranquil jogging track that extends the length of the city with numerous accesses throughout St Andrews.

Schools & Education
Pukete Primary School and Te Rapa Primary School caters for primary school children while the progressive St Andrews Middle School caters for children through to Form 4. Fraser High School extends its zone through to the St Andrews area.

Distance from CBD
Catch the Route 1 bus to Pukete from the transport centre stopping at Vardon Road, Braid Road and Sandwich Road for St Andrews passengers. Approximately 4 kms from the city centre a cab fare will cost approximately $15.

Key Attractions
The proximity to great sporting facilities and shopping without having busy link roads running through the suburb are key attractions to St Andrews. Tree lined streets and modern development have given the suburb an atmosphere of tranquillity.
