History
John Davies bought 100 acres from F.R Claude who originally developed Claudelands in the late 1800s. He bought the land as a dairy farm and called it Fairfield from which todays suburb entered the city in 1949. However, it was the 1950’s which saw its mass development. Much of this was done by the state through the Housing Corporation which was responsible for the development and building in areas such as Poets Corner right up until the 1970’s.

Real Estate & Architecture
Over 3340 homes in this area house a population of over 9200. Large areas of homes, built in the 1950’s, by the state, to house Hamilton’s developing population still dominate the area.

Shopping
Five cross roads has a number of shops in an open mall and strip shopping style. The Cake Kitchen which dominates one corner is home to some of Hamiltons best cakes. Convenience shops can also be found in Heaphy Terrace and at Davies Corner. Locals recommend the local produce from the Heaphy Terrace Fruit and Vegetable store.

Sports & Fitness
Fairfield Park has wide open spaces for jogging or kicking a ball. It also accommodates the Fairfield Tennis club. The Hamilton United Womens Bowling Club can be found in Alfred Street.
